  not only does it steal your time from earning a living and having personal time, it also costs you real $$$ in fuel vehicle costs and maintainance .

  Its true. The cost of pioneering when you are 18-22 depending on some of the other choices you are making in your life, could be catastrophic. Imagine even moreso if you are a woman in that same age group that has made bethel (or a bethelite), your goal like some I have known. Some chance this idea of being a prominent organizational mans wife......for decades with no success. talented,a ttractive, otherwise sane women doing this.

  I pioneered on and off, but getting my time kept my best focus away from conversion. I converted 7 or 8 people before I was even 35. Some are still JW's and I wonder all the time if I should be saying something. Some I have hooked up with as adults, and they woke up and left. They were SHOCKED to see me gone as well and we have reignited a friendship. They never blamed me.....which i always appreciated.

  One woman who was a bit of a mentor in the ministry to me in Sacramento I think at last count before she passed away had almost 180 people she studied with get baptized. She passed away several years ago now, but wow.

  Doctors and surgeons say no to blood transfusions

  my mum recently told me that even surgeons won't have blood transfusions, but the common people don't get told this.

  i have also seen or heard others say that a bunch of doctors/health officials/surgeons were asked, at some point, if they would accept a blood transfusion and they all said no.

  is this true?

  This is always a red herring thrown by JW's. Even if blood 30 years from now is considered "bad medicine", it does not justify decades of abuse of power in enforcing it through shunning.

  Someone used the example of Isreal being told to circumcise on a certain day, and lo and behold that just happens to be the day the body produces vitamin K, and can clot blood easier. So we may not understand why something is forbidden, but the reason could be supplied as medical advancement is made.

  My response? (Close lower jaw). Number 1, circumcision is not a requirement. It is up to each person to decide at this point. Second, how do you know the Isrealites (who were the only ones seemingly cutting off foreskins), didn't kill a bunch of their children, and figure out if they waited....they didn't bleed to death?

  Also, this is either a biblical issue, or a medical one. It can't be both. You are either refusing (wether it is good or bad for your health in any scenario), because you believe God has directed you to or not. No invasive procedure is "ideal". A person today affected by a tainted batch of blood, is a tragedy. But if 10,000 people benefited from that same procedure and it even saved some lives, do you stop because it has that .01% chance of doing harm or having someone reject it? I certianly hope that one day blood is not neccesary anymore to treat patients. Much of this could even be solved by allowing use of your own blood stored for later. I should have saved my childs cord blood for stem cells in the future.

  The point is that YOU should be able to make that decision, without the threat of displeasing God, or communal shunning over your head. THEN is becomes a medical decision, and you can make the one that is right for you and your family.

  FuGK This Religion- Stop Ruining My Life!!!

  i am sorry for the title but today just took the cake.

  after not going to the meetings since august and trying to sort through this with my family, my wife today told me she wants to separate because of our differences over being a witness or not.. this is ridiculous.

  so i said- how can you separate from me when the religion you whole heartedly believe says you can only separate for 3 reasons- abuse, willful non-support, or stopping her from her meeting attendance, etc.

  I realize its hard, but keep your cool. Be the normal one. it will serve you well in dealing with the situation, AND with any possible legal separation proceedings if it gets to that.

  DOn't blow up, don't blame the religion out loud (except here), try to keep your head bud. I know its hard.

  Do you and your wife get along normally? A good marriage? How did you break it to her?

  the hermenuetics of the type/anti-type practice was a big deal to me in realizing the tatt.

  i searched high and low for a rational basis for concluding that god was communicating in a type/anti-type format that wasn't special pleading and circular.

  In typical JW talk, Splane said "...when warranted". So who decides when it is warranted?

  You know who. Nothing has changed. its a warm up for something else, and maybe to give the appearance of "reaching" less.

  For all intensive purposes, nothing has changed.

  Someone told me of a Chinese story regarding sticks that turned to snakes and back to sticks to show Gods power (a la Moses), which predates the bible by quite some time. anyone know what this is off the top of their head?

  Elders, apostasy and disfellowshipping issue's - thoughts please

  ok so... when i was talking to my mil about why i no longer wanted to be a witness she kept trying to convience me that i needed to speak to the elders.

  i said from the word go i didn't feel the need to as my mind was already made up and no one could change it.

  i also said if the elders new all my reasons for leaving they would view me as an apostate and i would get disfellowshipped.

  I relate to the curiosity. I have expressed myself to a few elders, in a very calculated way, and very matter of fact. Always within the parameters of what they are held to.

  So I have been able to get away with most. However......if someone really wanted to come after me I am sure I have put alittle too much out there. Fortunately.....I'm simply too much work. So I have my JW friends, I'm able to talk to them about things to varying degrees. I just had a good buddy of mine under a few beers, tell me he thinks its all hypocritical crap, but his wife couldn't bear shunning.....so they do a couple meetings a month.

  this article from 2012 published by the birmingham news showed up on my facebook page.. what i would have liked to see in the statistics is the inclusion of total jws refusing blood transfusion and their survival rate not only the ones taht surviced, taking about only survivors is not like for like comparison in my opinion with patients who take blood transfusion and then dont survive.. .

  What gets me about this.....EVERY freaking time.....is that it is either a scriptural issue OR a medical one.

  Don't make the argueemnt that blood is bad medicine to try to bolster your case, if the arguement that it is good medicine doesn't matter because its a scriptural issue.

  I have never been out with JW's where a conversation stopper didn't work. People don't know what to do instinctually when someone says no thank you nicely.

  Only a few old heads actually try something. i would say 90% of the JW's that hear I'm not interested, are perfectly happy to move on and have already done their "door".
